Head Greenkeeper's Welcome
Matlock Golf Course is situated 850 feet above sea level in the hills of Derbyshire just on the edge of the Peak district. This gives the course some fantastic backdrops and scenery in which to work and play golf. With different terrain to modern golf courses Matlock has stayed true to its design with cut and fill greens with steep banks and accuracy over length being important.
This old design does present a challenge for modern day equipment but my staff and I are committed to presenting the course in the best possible condition at all times.
Over the last 18 months the Golf Club has invested in a whole new fleet of the latest Toro machinery, from hand mowers for the greens to a new fairway mower and top dresser. The club has employed the services of Peter Wisbey, a renown course consultant. My staff and I have worked closely with Peter and the result has seen the course improve greatly over the past 18 months.
The Golf Course is built on moorland and a lot of these characteristics remain today with heather, gorse, wild flowers and diverse wild life prominent. A number of bird boxes are in place around the course with large areas of land maintained specifically to encourage different flora and fauna including wild orchids, insects and small mammals.
I hope that all visitors to Matlock Golf Club truly enjoy their golfing experience, and would recommend friends to visit our Golf Course.
